KITTENS NEED YOUR URGENT SUPPORT
Last Saturday night, we received an e-mail that three kittens were in imminent danger. True enough: the four-month-old kittens, temporarily blinded, their eyes encrusted shut from the mange that ravaged their tiny bodies, lay huddled on a filthy blanket in a graffiti-covered alley.
An SCA volunteer successfully retrieved the 4-month-old darlings from the alley, but when she did, she couldn’t help notice the dead bodies of other cats in the area.
Most likely, one of those bodies was that of the kittens’ mother. At best, mange, which infant animals can inherent from their mothers, is tough to control. At worst, in animals with compromised immune systems, it can be fatal. As the cats in this area were severely malnourished, the mite infestation has proven deadly. We are going to somehow set up regular feedings and spay/neuter the colony.
And tragically, despite excellent care from a rescuer, only two of the rescued kittens would awake the next morning. Those two survivors are now receiving IV drips, antibiotics, blood transfusions and constant monitoring. While our vet is hopeful, we’re under no illusions – the kittens remain in guarded condition.
Having been saved from a terrifying environment, the two kittens’ fate is up to us.
Please consider donating at this time so that we can continue our efforts to restore their health.
Neglect has taken its toll on these kittens, but with your help, they stand a healthy chance of overcoming the horrors of that alley, and ultimately, may find themselves in loving homes.
Please donate to our emergency medical fund so that we can help save these kittens and the many more that we will rescue this coming year.
