Stray Cat Alliance and Los Angeles County Sign Landmark Deal – Your Help Needed!

Dear Felines Friends:

As you may know, at any given time since the 1940s, many cats have lived at the 160+-acre Rancho Los Amigos facility in Downey, CA  in relative safety.

Because the County of Los Angeles is set to demolish buildings at the facility in the coming months, county workers recently began trapping strays and ferals there.
Some of the cats were brought to the Downey pound, where statistically 99% of ferals are killed.  Fortunately, volunteers retrieved most of the impounded cats in time, and Stray Cat Alliance went into negotiations with the county.

Not only did the county stop trapping, we have now entered into a historic agreement:   Stray Cat Alliance will undertake the monumental job of trapping and relocating the cats!

SCA only advocates relocating feral cats as a last resort – and this is it:  Our removing these cats is the only way to prevent their death.

We negotiated with the county and SCA volunteers will trap and house the cats and the county will sterilize, vaccinate, microchip and test all the cats at their expense! Most have had all this done already.

We therefore urgently need:

  • Volunteers to help humanely trap the cats
  • Transportation
  • Temporary places (garages, patios, etc.), where cages can house the cats temporarily
  • Fosters & permanent loving homes for friendly cats
Permanent loving backyards for ferals in predator-free environments (Areas like Malibu are therefore NOT a good bet)
  • Donations to our “Care of Ferals” program. We will incur the enormous cost for food, care, post-op medical and  many other expenses  throughout this campaign.

Please, we need your help to make this precedent-setting agreement between Stray Cat Alliance and the County of Los Angeles a huge success!  We need your support more than ever.

Please look for future postings and updates. We will soon be sending out a link  where you can pledge to sponsor a kitty for relocation who will go to a safe, legal sanctuary or home.

In sincere gratitude,
Christi Metropole,
President and Founder
